  • Why TEFL/TESOL Certification Matters

  • In today’s highly competitive TEFL landscape, obtaining additional certifications can significantly expand your opportunities to teach English—whether in traditional classrooms or through online platforms.

  • But what do these qualifications involve, and are they necessary if you already hold a degree?

  • Even if you possess a bachelor’s degree—whether in a related field or not—most employers still require a recognized TEFL or TESOL certification. This is because such qualifications provide specialized training in language teaching methodologies, classroom management, and learner engagement strategies that are not typically covered in standard degree programmes.

  • Similarly, holding a master’s degree does not replace the need for TEFL/TESOL certification. While advanced academic credentials are highly valued, they do not necessarily equip candidates with the practical skills required to effectively teach English as a foreign language.

  • In most cases, degree holders are still expected to undergo formal TEFL/TESOL training to meet the requirements for teaching positions both locally and internationally.
