Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
The Diploma in TESOL is specifically targeted at those who are interested in teaching English as a second or foreign language.
Preferably, students should have a degree-equivalent qualification. However, students with at least high school or GCE ‘O’ level-equivalent qualification will also be considered. The most important consideration is that students must be fluent in both oral and written English at proficiency level.
The Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is specifically designed for those who are interested in teaching English as a second or foreign language to others.

On completion of your course, you will receive a Level 7 Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. This is endorsed by an OFQUAL approved awarding body, TQUK, at a level of learning equivalent to level 7.

Master of Arts (MA) in TESOL
The Diploma in TESOL qualifications will be considered as course credits towards the following MA in TESOL qualification.
Edge Hill University’s MA TESOL is a UK-based, academic Master’s degree that is designed to develop existing professional skills. The programme will engage you in the critical analysis of contemporary debate enabling you to develop a strong conceptual understanding of the fundamental theories and key principles of language education, as well as a critical awareness of key national and international issues at the forefront of TESOL. You may choose your own focus of study and research from a choice of optional modules.
1. Ideally a Bachelor Degree in any discipline but if you do not possess this, at least 5 passes at GCE O Level to include a pass in English.
London Teacher Training College has an inclusive approach, not wanting to bar those who have a passion to teach but who did not progress academically beyond school-leaving qualifications. At the same time, we have worked with trainees holding Certificates, Diplomas, Bachelor’s Degrees, Masters Degrees and PhDs in various disciplines; all have wanted to develop their ability to teach English as a second language, to understand and deal with the issues of language learning.

3. To become familiar with the phonetics and phonology of spoken English.
4. To understand how language is learned and acquired.
5. To understand what constitutes error in English language learning.
6. To know the methodologies available for the teaching of language.
7. To be able to use methodologies and the teaching principles to achieve them.
8. To be able to create original lesson plans.
9. To know the use of teaching aids and support materials for teaching English.
10. To be effective in class management and organisation.

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING:
Assessment is by written assignments, two for each of the four modules. You will receive a detailed and a timely feedback on each submission from your tutor. If your assignment needs to be improved, your tutor will make helpful suggestions. You can submit each assignment up to three times without further payment. After the third attempt, if your work is still below the pass grade of C, a small charge will be made to cover the additional administrative cost of marking your work.
GRADE A, PASS WITH DISTINCTION:
The trainee teacher has demonstrated considerable further reading, an ability to express original thinking and has proved to have a sound knowledge of TESOL techniques. The trainee teacher has also indicated an attitude and ability to be able to soundly develop these techniques in teaching.
GRADE B, PASS WITH CREDIT:
The trainee teacher has read more widely than the course requirements and is able to relate the theoretical issues studied to teaching.
GRADE C, PASS:
The trainee teacher has passed the course satisfactorily, has reached an adequate standard in each of the modules and has shown assimilation of the basic elements of TESOL.
