This course is designed to introduce students to careers in the field of General Child Care. It provides basic competencies related to Child Development, Care of Children, Recognizing and Responding to the needs of Children, Health and Nutrition requirements, Child Rights and Professional Ethics of Child Care, Care of Children with disabilities, fostering stimulating and inclusive environments and establish positive relationships with parents and service providers.

Admission Requirements:

 

Applicants should be over 18 years of age

And should have passed at least in six subjects including Mathematics

And First Language at the General Certificate (Advanced Level) Examination.

A good knowledge in the language medium selected will be an advantage.

Documents required for Registration:

 

When you come for Registration you need to bring:

1. National identity card and a photocopy

2. Original Birth Certificate and a photocopy

3. Any other educational credentials

4. Recommendation and Experience letters.

5. Three passport size photographs (35 mm x 45 mm)

6. TEFL application form

7. CV

Medium of Instruction : Sinhala / English and Tamil

​

The Duration : Theory - Six Months / OJT - Six Months

​

Target Group:

• Possible career paths, following further study, for those obtaining this qualification are

• Day care center Assistant

• Pre School Assistant

• Early Childhood Teacher

• Infant care Teacher Or as an entrepreneur in the field

 

Mode of Delivery : Physical Classroom / Online & Blended Learning

Practical Work:

 

Apart from Theoretical Courses there is a Practical training in Child Care  Education which includes guided Child Care  practice, preparation of teaching aids and observation at the Child Care centres located in :

​

• Colombo

• Matara 

• Kandy

• Negombo

• Vauniya

• Thalawakele

 

Regional Centres as well as at many other selected Child Care centres throughout the country. These Practical sessions are compulsory.

Assessment:

​

Assessment includes Continuous Assessment and Final Evaluation.

​

A. Continuous Assessment-is conducted through a specified number of compulsory assignments. Students are required to submit these assignments, which will be graded and returned together with the tutor's comments.

​

B. Final Evaluation-each course (other than the project) will be evaluated on the basis of a written examination of three hours duration.The written examination consists of eight question papers.

 

C. Three practical components are assessed separately.

D. Log Book.

Note :

Students who have registered to English Medium should write the Assignments & Final Examination in English Medium. If not, your answer script will not be marked and you may have to repeat the Assignment as well at the Final Examination of the relevant course.   

 

Programme will be started at above centers only if there are more than 20 students reported for the particular centre.

Free : English Language course for course for participants without any charges.

 

Internship:

Available in the training period.
